The Capilano Salmon hatchery is a great place to visit-not because of the salmon hatchery…. but because of the beautiful trails and the fantastic views of the Canyon.
Don’t get me wrong, the salmon hatchery is very educational,informative and even inspirational.
Also the architecture is great, all open, beautiful views….yet covered so that you can enjoy the Pacific Northwest even when it’s pouring rain without getting wet.
Some areas of interest in the park are:
1.The Cable Pool- this area is about 200 m downstream from the salmon hatchery on the east side of the Capilano river. Typically there are at least three or four people fishing-sometimes catching nothing, sometimes catching dozens-doesn’t really matter though because this place is sooooo beautiful that it doesn’t matter if you catch anything or not.
2.The “Giant Fir”trail– is on the west side of the Capilano River just cross over the timber bridge which is 100 m downstream from the Salmon Hatchery. Once across there are a number of different trails which are very well marked. One of them( as you can guess) goes to the “Giant Fir”- all of the trails are well marked and as long as you use common sense ( stick to the trails, don’t climb over barriers-don’t cover yourself with honey and chase bears) then you should have a great time.
